# Ackless

Ackless is a privacy-first Australian browser extension that hides repeating Acknowledgement of Country blocks. No telemetry. Local settings only.

Ackless is a small, open-source WebExtension for Australian browsing. It hides repeating acknowledgement banners, modals, and footers that show up across many .au sites, and can apply a short, auditable list of optional place-name display preferences the user controls.

## What it does

- Runs on Australian pages (including .au, en-AU, and sites the user deliberately enables).
- Detects common acknowledgement phrasing and hides the nearest matching block, including content that loads after first paint.
- Keeps simple on-device counters for how many blocks were hidden.
- Uses storage for settings and counts, and the active tab so the current site can be enabled from the popup.

## What it does not do

- No analytics, no remote ruleset, and no background “phone home” for browsing data.
- No cloud sync of counts or settings.
- Matching is conservative; occasional false positives and negatives are expected.
